They are about to debut their first ready to wear runway collection ever in Australia on Saturday August 24 at Sydney’s Town Hall as part of Mercedes-Benz Fashion Festival, but according to her famous sisters, Khloe and Kourtney, fashion is the furthest thing from new mum Kim Kardashian’s mind at the moment.
The reality star has been cocooning in her mum Kris Jenner’s mansion since the birth of her baby North West with superstar father Kanye on June 15.
“She loves so many Australian designers, she definitely loves Australian fashion but right now as a brand new mum she really has been staying home and staying with the baby,” sister Khloe told Fairfax Media from the US ahead of the launch of the expanded Kardashian Kollection to apparel next month.
“Not that she doesn’t really have any fashion right now! She just hasn’t really gone anywhere to wear anything.”
Admitting the Kardashian mansion was a luxurious place to be holed up in post birth and nestle with North West, Khloe says her sister was in a bubble of bliss, fashion shows the furthest thing from her mind. “She’s relaxed and enjoying every minute of it,” she said, revealing she’d been relaxing by the Jenner pool.
West was this week spotted on a yacht in Greece while Kim remained in LA. There has been talk she is staying in doors and shaping up for a big post-baby body reveal appearance, no doubt to be tied in with a magazine deal.
Elder sister Kourtney – who has two children, Mason, 3, and Penelope, 1 – chimed in that both she and Kim were “very blessed” to have their mother on hand to help settle the new baby.
The sisters are treating the worldwide catwalk debut of the collection – which has expanded from denim, accessories, hosiery and handbags to include dresses, jacket, blouses, shorts and skirts – as a bit of a test run, although they are frustrated at not being able to be here for the parade itself.
“It’s our very first Kardashian Kollection show ever and we’re so excited but we’re really nervous too. The Mercedes Benz Fashion Festival is such an honourable thing to be at and Australia is a place we really cherish which has been so good to our brand which we are launching in September – we thought it would be a tease, it’s kind of [a rehearsal] for us,” said Khloe, who will fly to Australia solo in November to celebrate the launch.
“It is incredibly frustrating and also scary because we’re such control freaks – so to oversee everything from a distance is really hard. But I will be there in Australia this November to celebrate the launch of our ready to wear. I’m coming by myself as these two ladies have had all these children now and they can’t get there for it.”
Meanwhile, Kourtney says the sister are still working on a baby range with their Australian design partner Bruno Schiavi of Jupi Corp – the fashion house behind their label.
“We’ve still been working on it we want to perfect it and make sure its everything, we are hoping and dreaming- we’ve definitely still been working on it and hopefully it’s something you’ll see soon,” said Kourtney, who has never made the trip here but says she is trying to arrange to come with both sisters next year.
